Monterey Auction Results 2022 – Collectible Mercedes
Monterey Car Week 2022 is in the rear view mirror. As usual, it was a fabulous week full of great cars, fun with other car guys and the great events that only take place in Monterey. Of course, a huge part of the week are the collector car auctions held around the Peninsula… five of them this year. We attended a number of live auctions over the course of the week and were happy to see a very, very strong collector car market in action. Despite the economic and geopolitical political factors that so many were sure would affect collector car sales during this special week in August, prices were strong and sell through rates were high. It seems collector car enthusiasts are still interested in putting cool cars in their garages, no matter what might be happening in the world around them. According to Hagerty Insider the total for all cars sold in Monterey across all the auctions was $469 Million, the highest total sales figure ever.
We’ve compiled a list of all the Mercedes-Benz cars that crossed the various auction blocks in Monterey. Of the 75 Mercedes offered, only 7 failed to meet reserve, and five of those were at the Mecum auction. There were few ‘deals’ to be had and a lot of cars were sold above their high estimates.
We’ve sorted the Mercedes offered in Monterey from oldest to newest. You will see the description of the car, the auction company’s lot number, a letter or two, representing the auction company sold the car and the final sale price with buyer’s premium… the actual amount the car cost the high bidder / new owner. The buyer’s premium among most auction companies, the new post-pandemic industry standard, is 12% on the first $250,000 and 10% on the balance above $250,000. The few no sales are highlighted in RED. We pulled these results from the very handy ‘Hammer Price’ app. If you don’t have this app on your phone yet and like to keep up with collector car auctions, you need to download it from the app store today, it’s a great tool.
