Mercedes Benz color code 481 – Bornite Metallic (also referred to as Blackberry Metallic)
Bornite Metallic (481) is an unusual color, a sort of purple metallic, more common in Europe and the rest of the world than in the U.S. According to our research, this color was only available in the U.S. for the 1993 model year. It was more widely available in other parts of the world during other years in the 1990s.
Thanks go to Mercedes enthusiast Oscar Hollenbeck for submitting photos of his 1992 500 E to the Mercedes Market Paint Color Library Project (the large ‘featured’ photo on this page is of his car, as is the 1992 500 E example of this color). Oscar included these thoughts and observations with his submission:
This color (Bornite), does change with lighting, ranges from a light brown with a tinge of purple, to a light or dark purple color. Most people ask “What color is this?” The registration says Brown. (It’s a) Japan build, imported to USA June 2017
