Mercedes 500 E RENNtech Video Walk Around at Tobin Motor Works
Every once in a while a car comes along that makes you re-evaluate the automotive pecking order, a car that makes you remember the best drives you’ve ever had and where they all stack up against each other. That’s what happened when I drove this Mercedes 500 E RENNtech. This very special car is in the cue to go live on bringatrailer.com in the next few weeks.
It’s a 1993 model 500 E that was sent to RENNtech in Florida by its original owner where the final bill for all the modifications totaled about $58,000. Some of that was wheels and tires, but suffice to say, this Mercedes 500 E RENNtech has tens of thousands of dollars worth of carefully chosen and installed high performance modifications. The end result.. according to RENNtech, 412 horsepower and 429 ft./lbs torque… and one heck of a driving experience!
The odometer of this Mercedes 500 E RENNtech shows just 71,350 original miles.
Modifications at RENNtech included engine work… bored and stroked to 6 liters, installation of longer duration, higher lift camshafts, reworked cylinder heads and ported and polished intake and exhaust ports.
The transmission of this Mercedes 500 E RENNtech received a cooler with fan, heavy duty discs, RENNtech first gear start valve body and an ASR delete switch. A heavy duty front sway bar was installed, it received RENNtech rear multi-link suspension and Koni adjustable shocks. It also received and upgraded engine oil cooler, over sized radiator, a complete RENNtech stainless steel exhaust system and 13″ Alcon brakes, front and rear.
Ongoing maintenance was undertaken on this car regularly. In 2015 both of the, much maligned, wiring harnesses were replaced along with other items, at RENNtech in Florida. Since 2015 the car has been driven sparingly and regularly maintained. The car is complete with tool roll, original books and manuals and an extensive history and maintenance file including copies of past owner titles and maintenance records. A fitted car cover is also included with the car.
