According to the owner of this modern Mercedes Binz Conversion Pick-Up, 5 such cars were built in 2000. Taken off the Mercedes assembly line as a rear wheel drive E Class wagon and sent to the Binz factory in Stuttgart for conversion.
The two-page Binz Coachwork receipt dated March 2000 confirms a conversion cost of almost $50,000 (below).
Two of the five Binz conversions produced in 2000 were purchased by Atlanta Classic Cars, a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer in Atlanta, GA, in an effort to offer something unique and interesting to their customers. They found the final price tag a bit too steep for their market and didn’t end up commissioning or importing any others. They used them for promotion and showroom display. The owner of this example acquired it about ten years ago.
Showing approximately 21,037 original miles, this car has all the conveniences of a Mercedes E Class with the utility of a pick-up truck. It is well optioned with Parktronic parking sensors, COMAND Navigation, power reclining rear seats, rear console mini refrigerator, roof rails, aluminum diamond plate bed and LED lighting in the bed rails. It was also equipped with a period Mercedes telephone. Binz has been converting Mercedes cars into wagons, ambulances and other commercial / utility vehicles for over 50 years. The craftsmanship here is incredible. Build quality is excellent, the attention to detail is what you’d find with a fine, custom built car.(More photos below the contact info)
