Mercedes Color Code 050, White is one of the longest running color codes (along with 040 Black) across Mercedes-Benz history. It is the most common white color used over the years on virtually every model and generation of Mercedes up until the modern era when slight variations like ‘Polar White’ and ‘Arctic White’ were introduced. Other whites were used in the 60s and 70s, such as ‘Papyrus White’ and ‘Classic White’ – but 050 remains the ‘original’ white of Mercedes-Benz.

Code: 050 G – White. 1963 220 SE Convertible (Cars in the 1950s and early 60s often had color codes as seen here, “50 G” color code convention changed mid 1960s). Photo: Dave Tobin

Color Code: 050 G – White. 1967 250 SL, Minneapolis, MN (not a great photo, but we’ll use it until we get a better submission). Photo: Dave Tobin

1971 280 SL in White – Mercedes color code 050 G. The data plate on this car displays two color codes which means that it was originally a ‘two tone’ car. The car was 050 White, while the hardtop and hub caps were 040 black. The appearance of the data plate (no longer body color, generally rough condition) and the fact that the hub caps and hard top are no longer black as delivered from the factory leads me to believe that body work has been done to this car over the years.
