Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auction 2025 – Top 5 Early Mercedes Consignments – ‘Bookend 300 SL Roadsters’ Among Others
Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auction 2025 is gearing up to be an impressive one for classic Mercedes-Benz for sale. Here are five early Mercedes consignments for sale.
Every auction company hopes to land Mercedes consignments like these, and this August Gooding Christie’s will be offering two, very special 300 SLs among other Mercedes for sale at their Pebble Beach auction.
According to Gooding Christie’s President, David Gooding, “Our pair of Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadsters highlight the sheer excellence of this model as one of the greatest road-going automobiles of all time, from the very beginning of its run in 1957 to its final year of production in 1963.”

As usual, the later car with disc brakes and an alloy engine block is expected to bring a higher hammer price than the early 300 SL Roadster, but any collector would be pleased to have either car in their collection.
We’ve seen 300 SL prices pull back a bit from the higher prices we were seeing 8-10 years ago, but still, for the right cars, the market, and demand, is strong. It’s interesting to note that 300 SLs are appearing on bringatrailer.com with some regularity now and selling for strong prices. Never the less, we expect to continue to see the major auctions as the prime location for the sales of these ‘gold standard’ collectible Mercedes-Benz.
1959 Mercedes-Benz 300d Cabriolet For Sale – Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auction 2025
Just 65 of these big cabriolets were produced between 1958 and 1962 making them fairly rare cars. They’re incredibly expensive to restore to the level we see here and don’t come up for sale very often. Gooding Christies has not published auction estimates for most of their early consignments as of this writing, but we would expect an auction estimate in the half million-dollar range.
1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A For Sale – Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auction 2025
A pre-war design carried over to Mercedes’ post-war era, the 220 Cabriolet A has good looks from the 1930s but with the larger inline 6 cylinder engine, a serious upgrade from the 4 cylinder unit found in the similar looking 170 series. Prices on Cab As have really fallen off over the past few years. It wasn’t too long ago that they were bringing $200,000 – $250,000 and even more for the right example. In 2025, we wouldn’t expect this car to reach that level, but we’ll make a final judgement during the auction preview when we can actually get eyes on the car.
2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster For Sale – Gooding Christies Pebble Beach Auction 2025
Perhaps the ultimate early 2000s ‘Super Car’ from Mercedes, these cars were over $500,000 when new, more than double the price of the SLS cars that were introduced just a couple of years later. These cars have been hurt in the market due to complaints about their styling, looking too much like a regular SL, or worse, an SLK of the period. Never the less, they are exotic, serious collector cars that offer loads of performance. We believe these continue to be overlooked and undervalued in today’s market and offer a unique opportunity for the savvy collector who decides to add one to their garage.
If these five cars are any indication, it looks like Gooding Christie’s will have a great sale from a Mercedes-Benz standpoint on the Monterey Peninsula this August. Check back soon to Mercedes-Market.com as we add all the Mercedes cars to be offered at Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auction 2025 as more information becomes available.
