1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3
Exterior: Grey Blue Poly (906 G)
Interior: Black leather
Originally from California, this Mercedes 6.3 is in exquisite condition inside and out. Fully detailed engine bay with correct coatings and decals, correct original color and completely sorted, ready to drive across the country.
Like any responsible 6.3 owner, the owner of this car has many more tens of thousands of dollars ‘in it’ than he can ever expect to get out!
Extensive restoration work performed by Star Motors in Endicott, NY. Disassembly and repaint in correct factory color, new interior, rebuilt mechanical systems. Binder full of receipts on all the work done over the last 16 years, some highlights below:
Spring / Summer 2015 – Engine rebuild, cylinders machined, rebuilt, new head gaskets
Rebuilt fuel injection & electronic ignition installed,
Rebuilt automatic transmission
Upgraded A/C to Sanden custom 600 unit
All wood trim removed, refinished and reinstalled by Heritage Woodworks
Complete interior restoration – new leather, foam, horsehair pads, steering wheel, knobs, interior chrome strips, rebuilt instrument cluster, installed correct Becker OEM radio
Dozens of receipts over the past decade detailing the usual maintenance of a vintage car: tune-ups, replacing seals, recharging a/c, etc.
Since September 2015 ($23,000+ in receipts)
Work performed at Rheinland Motors – Sunnyside, NY since current owner’s purchase in September 2015:
Air suspension restoration / replacement – ‘we basically took the underside of the car apart’ says the owner. Cleaned and inspected & replaced, as needed, including all bellows, new engine mounts, sub-frame mounts, bushings, shocks, starter motor, brakes, front and rear, calipers, pads, lines, etc.
New interior seals around all door windows, new window regulator
Drained fuel tank, re-sealed, replaced fuel pump

I visited this Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 in its garage in mid-town Manhattan a couple of weeks ago. The photos, quite simply, do NOT begin to do this car justice. Exterior paint is excellent with only two minor chips I could find. The interior is beautiful, black leather and very well fitted / installed. The wood is beautifully refinished. Best of all, it drives beautifully and recently had a $23,000+ full suspension rebuild and other work. I’ve seen lesser 6.3s sell at big time auctions for a lot more money than what is being asked here. Don’t buy a $45,000 6.3 that needs work and think you can save yourself money. Buy someone else’s completed project. -Dave Tobin
